Palin’s Sense of Duty to a “Higher Calling” – IS the Answer!
Sometimes the obvious escapes us while we are busy digging deep in adrenalin-rushed excitement over the possibility of shocking revelations. There is a flurry of speculation by pundits, bloggers, supporters, and MSM (that includes YOU FOX News) over the reason(s) behind why Sarah Palin resigned her position on July 3rd, 2009 as Governor of Alaska. After careful reading of her speech and the July 4th letter to her supporters, I am convinced that the answers are all there.
Follow my hypothesis:
Palin has made a very strategic and amazingly clever move that actually makes sense if you understand her underlying motivation and ultimate goals. Her decision to NOT run for re-election was predictable given her future aspirations and where she and many others see her role in the Republican Party. I think many of us saw that coming for quite some time now.
Where she absolutely took most of the world by surprise was tendering her resignation. But talk about an attention getter! If you wanted media exposure to convey a message, it would be hard to surpass the strategy behind this move. Bravo! And then top it off with a poke in the sides of the bloggers that hounded her and distract the real basis for this decision even further!
Her reasoning is clearly articulated if you simply read what she said and stop looking for more:
The following are excerpts from her speech announcing her resignation on July 3rd, 2009
Alaska’s mission – to contribute to America. We’re strategic in the world as the air crossroads of the world, as a gatekeeper of the continent. Bold visionaries knew this – Alaska would be part of America’s great destiny.
Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time… to build up.
And there is such a need to build up and fight for our state and our country. I choose to fight for it! And I’ll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and life… I’ll work for and campaign for those proud to be American, and those who are inspired by our ideals and won’t deride them.
I will support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the right reasons, and I don’t care what party they’re in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska.
My choice is to take a stand and effect change – not hit our heads against the wall and watch valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars, go down the drain in this new environment. Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities – and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans.
I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you trust me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usual”.
Some will question the timing. Let’s just say, this decision has been in the works for awhile…
[People who serve know]…life is short so they choose to not waste time. They choose to be productive and to serve something greater than self… and to build up their families, their states, our country.
Remember Alaska… America is now, more than ever, looking North to the Future. It’ll be good. So God bless you, and from me and my family – to all Alaska – you have my heart.
And we will be in the capable hands of our Lieutenant Governor, Sean Parnell. And Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume the role of Lieutenant Governor. And it is my promise to you that I will always be standing by, ready to assist. We have a good, positive agenda for Alaska.
In the words of General MacArthur said, “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
And now excerpts from Governor Palin’s “Happy 4th of July from Alaska!” letter to her supporters:
“I determined after prayerful consideration that sacrificing my title helps Alaska most.
I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!
God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference – with you!
Sarah”
This is a rallying cry! She is not kidding when she states that she is not retreating – but advancing. Once the decision was made by herself and other contributors to her decision as to how to best utilize Palin’s extraordinary popularity to advance the power and resurgence of the GOP, resignation was the ONLY option that makes sense for the following reasons – because she is now free to traverse this country unencumbered by official duties AND:
- Excite and ignite her base – a base broader than that solely of the GOP, bringing together extremists, Libertarians, Constitution Party members as well as GOP loyalists – all under one umbrella in a way that no other republican candidate has been able to achieve to date;
- Because of her “rock star” popularity she is an invaluable asset to the floundering Republican Party as a fundraiser for the GOP (whether Mitt, Newt, Huckabee or any of the rest of the presidential hopefuls care to admit it through clenched teeth);
- They can capitalize on her ability to generate untold numbers of evangelical extremists to register to vote significantly increasing the likelihood for success in local and national elections;
- And, while everyone debates over “will she/won’t she” regarding 2012, the GOP strategists are winding her up to let her go on the 2010 campaign trail in an all out effort to dominate local, state and congressional seats – by riling the masses into a pitched fervor through propaganda over Obama = Bad! Using all the scare tactics and fear-mongering popular in GOP campaigns such as Muslim, socialism, debt, non-aggressive defense posture, and the terrorism threat to the safety of our country;
- And THEN lastly, it does give her time to consult with the religious ghost-writer assigned from Zondervan [Christian] Publishing to meet her contract obligation for her upcoming book release in Spring of 2010…which is an incredible tool that will have tremendous impact on growing her followers when she does in fact, decide to throw her harpoon into the presidential race of -2012.____________________________________________________________________

I presume you have read the posts and comments at “Conseratives for Palin?” Her followers are the religious lunatic fringe. You are right, Leah, they are ready to fight and die for Palin, and it is horrifying.
This article at c4p is titled: Sharpen Those Sabres – The Day Has Come By The Aged P. Some excerpts:
“There was sadness, of course, and regret but threading through the narrative a growing sense of hope and defiance….this was not submission, this was not surrender…this was a call to arms. She herself is surrounded by enemies from all sides who seek to break her spirit. But her message is clearly one of defiance.
She has ridden out alone from the citadel and stands on the crest of a hill that looks down towards the unknown. She has unfurled her banner and waits to see who will join her.
Sharpen those sabres – the day has come…..”
Here are a few comments to the above post:
Susan W said… “Man! This is really starting to build! Team Sarah membership is just exploding today…and all the new members are ready to fight alongside Sarah!”
Sapwolf said… “What will you do without freedom? We cannot falter, in body, in mind, in heart, and in spirit. She needs us now more than ever. And, the country needs us in what is turning out to be an hour of darkness. Do not let her light go out. Do not go quietly in the night. Keep the fires of the camp lit my fellow barbarians.”
Much more on that site, including several posters on other threads vowing that they will lay down and die for Sarah. They are the very definition of brainwashed cultists.
I predict that Palin will spend the next several years riling up her uneducated, crazed fans who pray for the Christian Taliban to take over America.

Hi, We are STILL talking about 30-35% of the GOP HARD-CORE FUNDIE/WHITE/CHRISTIAN BASE. THE CENTER IS WHERE ELECTIONS ARE WON. GOOD ANALYSIS, but 33% of GOP would vote FOR ATILLA-THE HUN–IF He was on the GOP TICKET. that Mcarthur QUOTE IS WRONG: IT WAS A MARINE GENERAL IN KOREAN WAR–in the “RETREAT” from “FROZEN CHOSEN”–GENERAL SMITH OR another LEGENDARY/cussing Marine General ???–in late 1950. GOLEM 3[I wrote 2200 words today+emails]

I was hoping Ayers would sue her for repeatedly calling a respected university professor a “terrorist.” He was never convicted of anything. I can understand why he didn’t do it, but this nightmare must be stopped before she destroys everything I love about America.

I have an Air America radio interview in the early AM tomorrow out of NY during commute time. Let’s hope this wakes up some people tomorrow!

Oh yes, her notion of “higher calling” has all the fundamentalist, religious content you outline – augmented by her immodest confidence that she has been “chosen.” And once you’re “chosen,” then anything you do becomes “higher” than the machinations of average mortals. I believe another clue in the speech is concern about legal debts. She’s hoping to be a money-making machine, not only for the bankrupt GOP, but for her own little Palin unit. Thanks for all you do, Leah.

History FAIL. It wasn’t MacArthur who said “We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction. It was Marine Gen. Oliver P Smith at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir (Korea).
Sadly, this is about what we’ve come to expect from the GOP: complete disregard for fact, as long as it SOUNDS good.

Exactly! There is no group more vicious than these extreme conservative ‘c’hristian evangelicals, yet they constantly proclaim persecuted victimization…as though calling Obama a Kenyan Muslim and the ONE, anti-Christ isn’t disrespectful and insulting.
We all have to remember to rise above that – and believe me – I KNOW how challenging that is!

After losing ten minutes of my life watching her CNN interview – she repeated that this was a prayerful decision. I can’t help but think of that song, on a wing and a prayer – she’s flying off on her higher calling

Palin Poll
The Christianity Today poll, What is your overall opinion of Sarah Palin?, is still open.
In the last poll we learned that 3% of Christians brought gun to church for 4th of July celebrations.
Pass this poll link around.

In many accounts of the Palin saga John McCain is denounced for picking her as vp choice. He did not pick her. A group of wealthy zealous christian tycoons and frothing at the mouth religious leaders that make up the CNP cabal told McCain either put her on the ticket or we are going to sit out this election. Meaning certain defeat for McCain. So this sterling hero of America did what he has always done in his political career, he put himself and his political ambitions first. Many people who don’t like Palin wish she would just go away, but I am not one of them. Although, I cannot stand to hear her screechy voice or listen to her babble I realize she is doing the Republicans more harm than good. The more the nation sees just how ignorant her supporters are, the more they are going to question how they got that way. Being brainwashed as a helpless child is a pretty good conclusion. Now we just need to get the major media to understand this story and stop defending what is the most lethal threat to our democracy that has ever come along: dominionism.

Richard…excellent remarks! We have to make Political Dominionism “sexy” to draw in the MSM…now THAT’s a challenge!

As my husband and I theorized last friday as to why she was resigning, we wondered if the woman is just a lunatic who recieved a midnight call from God on the red phone stating that she must join his army. Creepy.

A lot of what you say resonates. It pulls together a missing piece of the story that fits into the big picture. Now it makes more sense why McCain kept her away from the media –aside from her lack of knowledge on just about every subject.
Palin strikes me as an opportunist — an extremely ambitious one at that. Several republican incumbents are balking at the idea of her campaigning for them. Most of whom come from districts that went heavily for Obama realize nothing would fire-up democrats, independents and moderate republicans to come out and vote against them if Palin shows up.
So how much of a chance does Palin have of winning the WH?
1) Most states are now “purple” and “blue”
2) Hard core republicans are regional mainly in the South
3) Libertarians are peppered through out the nation, but but I don’t know if there are enough voters in any 1 state to get her over the top or whether they even like her ?
4) Moderate Evangelicals did not vote for her
5) PPP’s recent poll showed 55% of Americans say Sarah Palin is not fit to be President and 57% said her abrupt resignation made them less likely to vote for her.
6) Women overwhelmingly voted for Obama. Most do not believe she represents them.
However what Palin does do is tap into a growing dissatisfaction and her populist message attracts those people.
Unless she can campaign on more than platitudes and talking points I cannot see how Palin could get to, god forbid, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue — god help us all if she does. Insofar as helping republicans win state and local elections, depending on their district, that may be a different story notwithstanding.
Thank You for the information. I’ll be back.
